چکیده

The characterization of performance and losses proton exchange membrane (PEM) anion (AEM) electrolysis cells is typically carried out by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy polarization curve measurements. With these common methods, lateral inhomogeneities, local degradation, or defects cannot be mapped. Lock-in thermography (LIT) offers the possibility mapping current flows electrical losses. It has already been used successfully for many years in microelectronics photovoltaics, among others. Conventional LIT with pulsed DC excitation does not work below reversible voltage water electrolysis. Therefore, high frequencies are to generate conductivity ion membrane. Herein, first time, method variable-frequency AC (VACE)-LIT presented. combines aspects applied a PEM electrode assembly. shown that PEMs can exhibit strongly nonhomogeneous densities, presumably resulting from contact resistances layer stack. In addition, currents flowing at low indicate electronically conductive

Fabrication of bifunctional membrane electrode assemblies for unitised regenerative polymer electrolyte fuel cells

Introduction: The conversion and storage of energy with a high efficiency, especially a high specific energy, will be an important factor in future energy storage technologies. The relatively simple possibility to store hydrogen and oxygen with high specific energy combined with high energy conversion efficiency in fuel cells and electrolyser presents an opportunity for the use of polymer elect...

Detection and Characterization of Defects in Isotropic and Anisotropic Structures Using Lockin Thermography

Lockin thermography is a well-suited method for the characterization of structures made of both metal and fiber reinforced plastic. In most cases, only phase images are analyzed, although the amplitude images might contain useful information as well. Thus, systematic studies of lockin thermography are presented, assessing amplitude and phase images for the detection and quantification of defect...

Lockin - Thermography : Principles , NDE - applications , and trends

A review is given about Lockin-Thermography, about its photoacoustic and photothermal roots, about the principle and modern applications for nondestructive testing using different kinds of options. 1. What is Lockin-Thermography? As Lockin-Thermography is based on thermal waves, a short excursion to this kind of waves and some remarks on the way they were used seems to be appropriate. Some indi...

Reconfigurable assemblies of Janus rods in AC electric fields.

We investigate the electric field-induced assembly of Janus colloids composed of silica rods patterned with gold patches in both side- and tip-coated motifs. These shape and chemically anisotropic particles assemble into reconfigurable chains, whose structure depends on patch location, AC electric field strength, and frequency.

Characterizing Electrode-Level Oxygen Transport in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells

Polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) are a promising technology for environmentally friendly automobiles, among other applications. However, performance losses due to oxygen transport hindrances in the PEFC’s cathode continue to be an issue in widespread commercialization. This dissertation focuses on the transport of oxygen through the thickness of the PEFC cathode, and the effect of the cat...
